Τhe HELMEPA-Lloyd’s Register Foundation Campaign makes its last stop at the island of Naxos

The fourteenth and final stop in the “Educational Community and Public Awareness Campaign on the Marine Environment, Shipping and Sciences” will be the island of Naxos, in the Cyclades region. By the end of its stay there, the Campaign will have been implemented across 14 towns and cities throughout the country, between 2014 and 2017, with the support of Lloyd’s Register Foundation (LRF)*.

Besides raising environmental awareness among all age groups, the aim of this initiative was also to provide information on the themes of the Campaign in a different, “learning-by-doing” approach so as to inspire children in the Greek periphery to learn more about science, engineering and technology in the service of humanity and the environment.

The Campaign in Νaxos will take place from 13 to 24 November in cooperation with Society of Filotites of Naxos  – Anomeritis Library, under the auspices of the Municipality of Naxos and includes a mobile Exhibition for schoolchildren, a ‘train-the-trainer’ Seminar for teachers and other voluntary activities.

The Exhibition titled “Marine Environment, Shipping and Sciences” will be hosted at the Cultural Centre of the Society in Filoti, Naxos. In cooperation with the Directorates of Primary and Secondary Education of the Cyclades, approximately 800 local schoolchildren will be transported to the Exhibition on the Campaign’s expenses.

A presentation of the achievements so far of the 3-year Campaign to the representatives of the stakeholders of Naxos will take place on Monday 13 November, at 13.00, in the Exhibition area.
