The largest open ocean cleanup in history
In just two days, the ship "S/V KWAI" of Ocean Voyages Institute collected 103 tons of fishing nets and plastics in the area of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch (also known as Pacific Gyre)!
Pacific Gyre is located between Hawaii and California and is the region with the most plastics among the five major offshore plastic accumulation zones (Gyre).
This is the largest at sea clean-up to date, with the NGO setting a new record for successfully removing marine litter from that particular area.
